Not every agreement is signed the same way. Some you sign first, some you sign alongside the client, and some the client signs alone. You choose this on each agreement before you send it. This guide walks you through it from login.
Where to choose
- Log in to your workspace.
- In the left menu, under Legal, click E-sign & agreements.
- Build or open the agreement, then scroll to Signing parties.
- Find the Who signs? dropdown.
The three choices
Open Who signs? and pick one:
- We sign first, then the client(s). Your firm signs the document first, so it goes to the client already carrying your signature. The client is then asked to add theirs. Use this for an engagement letter you want to commit to before the client signs.
- We sign too, as a party. Your firm signs as an equal party alongside the client. You add your own signer, and you get your own signing link and one-time code, just like a client. Use this for a mutual agreement such as an NDA.
- Only the client(s) sign. The client signs and your firm does not. Use this for a consent or a form you only need the client to sign.
That is the full list. There is no separate "already signed" option. If you want the document to reach the client with your signature on it, choose We sign first, then the client(s).
Each person you add as a signing party gets their own secure link. Each party signs online in their own time.
Note
Whichever way you choose, everyone signs online and you get one certified signed copy at the end, with a record of who signed and when. See The signature certificate.
Letterhead
You can also choose whether the document shows your firm's branding. Tick Show our letterhead & logo to print the agreement on your firm's letterhead, or clear it for a plain document that will sit inside another pack.
Send it
When the parties and the signing choice are set, click Preview exact PDF to check it, then send it for signing. See Send an agreement for signing.
