Why a quote link says invalid or expired

If a quotation link says the link is not valid, the quote has usually expired or been withdrawn. Here is what each case means and how to get a fresh one.

What you are seeing

The Quotations list, where the firm sees whether a quote is expired, withdrawn or still open.

When your provider sends you a quotation, you get an email with a button or link to view it. Opening that link normally shows a page titled Your quotation, with the price, the service, a Valid until date, and an Accept & sign panel.

Sometimes the link opens a short page that says Link not valid, with the message that the quotation link is invalid or has expired. This is not a problem with your device or browser. It means the link itself is no longer active. There are a few reasons this happens.

Reason 1: the quotation has expired

Every quotation is only open for a set period. That period ends on the Valid until date shown on the quote. Once that date passes, the link stops working so an out-of-date price is not accepted by mistake.

If you meant to accept it, contact your provider and ask them to send it again. They can raise a fresh quotation with a new date, and you will get a new link.

Note

The validity period is counted from the day the quotation was created, not from the day you opened the email. If it was sent a while ago, it may already have passed its Valid until date.

Reason 2: your provider withdrew the quotation

If your provider cancelled the quotation, for example to correct a price and send a new one, the old link is switched off straight away. Opening it will show the Link not valid page even if the Valid until date has not passed yet.

In this case a corrected quotation is usually on its way, or already in your inbox. Check for a newer email from them, or ask them to resend.

Reason 3: the link was broken or incomplete

If the link was copied and pasted, or forwarded through a chat app, part of it can get cut off. Open the quotation straight from the original email using its button rather than a copied link.

Two pages that are not errors

A couple of pages look similar but are not the "invalid" message:

  • If you already accepted this quotation, the link shows Quotation accepted. That is confirmation, not an error. Your invoice follows shortly.
  • If you already declined it, the link shows Quotation declined. If that was a mistake, contact your provider and they can help.

For what each state means, see Quotation statuses explained.

What to do next

The Create quotation tab, where the firm raises a fresh quotation and a new secure link.

  1. Reply to the email you received, or contact your provider directly.
  2. Ask them to send you a fresh quotation link.
  3. Open the new link from the email and review it, then use Accept and sign a quotation to proceed.

You do not need a portal account to open or accept a quotation. The secure link in the email is all you need. If you do have an account, see Activate a client account to sign in and see everything in one place.
